What this job looks like
in Oak Park

Gas work in Oak Park is permitted through Ventura County, since there is no city building department here, and the inspector checks the pressure test before the line goes back into service. New runs are most of it: a BBQ or outdoor kitchen, a fire pit, a pool heater, a range, a dryer, each sized by its BTU rating and the length of the run, in black iron with a shutoff at the appliance. The other common one is upsizing from the meter for a tankless heater, which the older tracts here almost always need. If you smell gas, leave the house and call SoCalGas first.

Streets and pockets we work in: the Kanan tracts, Lindero Canyon, the streets off Oak Hills Drive, Sutton Valley, the newer tracts up Bowfield.

The job

How it goes

New lines are most of it. A gas line out to a built-in BBQ or an outdoor kitchen, a fire pit, a pool or spa heater, a range where the kitchen used to be electric, a dryer, a generator. Each one is sized by the appliance's BTU rating and the length of the run, in black iron or approved flexible pipe, with a shutoff at the appliance. The whole system is pressure tested, the permit is pulled and the inspector signs it off before the gas goes back on.

Leaks are the urgent version. If you smell gas, leave the house and call SoCalGas from outside; they come out free and shut it off. After that the repair is ours. We find the leak with a pressure test and a detector, fix it, test the whole system again and give you the paperwork the gas company wants before they relight.

The third kind of job is upsizing. A tankless water heater, a bigger range or a pool heater can draw more than the existing line can carry, and the fix is a larger line from the meter, sometimes with a meter upgrade from the gas company. We size that from the total load on the house so nothing downstream starves.

Call if

What you notice,
and what it usually is

01

You smell gas

Leave, and call SoCalGas from outside. Then call us for the repair.

02

A new BBQ, range, fire pit or pool heater

A new line, sized for it, permitted and tested.

03

Converting to a tankless water heater

The line from the meter almost always has to be upsized.

04

The gas company red-tagged an appliance

Usually a leak or a venting issue on that line. We fix it and get it cleared.

05

No earthquake shutoff valve at the meter

Required on new work in many jurisdictions and a good idea on the rest.

How it goes

Four steps, and you have the price at step three

  1. 01

    You call

Danny picks up when he can, and calls back the same day. Tell him what it is doing and where.

  2. 02

    We look

We come out, find the cause and show you. In plain words, with the part in our hand where there is one.

  3. 03

    You get a price

Before anything starts. Repairs are our time plus parts, and the bigger jobs get a written bid. Nobody here is on commission.

  4. 04

    We do the work

Small repairs are usually done the same visit. Bigger jobs get a start date and a number of days, and we hold to it. Done to code, permitted where it needs it, the house left the way we found it.

Common questions

Gas lines in Oak Park: things people ask

How fast can you get to Oak Park?
Usually the same day. Ten minutes up Kanan or Lindero Canyon from Westlake Village. Say what it is doing when you call.
Who issues permits in Oak Park?
Ventura County, because Oak Park has no city government. The county has its own schedule for inspections and we build the job around it, so the date we give you is one we can keep.
Do I need a permit for a gas line?
Yes, for any new line or change to the system. The inspector checks the pressure test before the line is put into service. It is part of the job and it is in the price.
Can you run gas to my outdoor kitchen?
Yes. That is one of the more common jobs. The line is sized for the BBQ and anything else out there, buried at code depth, with a shutoff at the island.
How do you test for leaks?
The system is isolated and put under air pressure with a gauge on it for a set time. If the gauge holds, it is tight. If it falls, we find the joint with a detector and soap.
