Dan’s job notes
What brought us out.
Sand and debris were getting into the outdoor drainage basin at this Malibu home. The job involved clearing the drains, fitting a new pump, and addressing the paths where debris could enter.
What we did.
Dave and I removed the remaining sand from the basin and cleared a large amount of sand and debris from the area drains along the house. We tested those lines with water and confirmed they were draining into the basin.
We installed a new pump to move collected water out of the basin, along with a check valve to help keep discharged water from flowing back. We also fitted new discharge piping with an elbow at the end to reduce splashing.
To help keep sand and seaweed out, we sealed the original gravity-fed opening with water-stop cement and built a custom cover over the basin using pressure-treated wood, wire, and waterproof mesh paper.
The total for this work across the two visits was $4,892.25.
A pump is only part of the job—the drains feeding it and the basin around it need attention too.
Fix what feeds the pump, too.
Sand and seaweed were getting into the basin. Sealing the old opening and covering the basin keeps them out of the new pump.
