Dan’s job notes
What brought us out.
The shower at this Santa Monica home was only giving hot water, with no cold water coming through. Dave handled this one for us.
What we did.
He first checked and flushed the screens on the hot and cold sides of the Grohe mixing valve. There was very little debris, so cleaning the screens wasn’t the answer. He replaced the thermostatic valve with the same model, put the trim back on, and tested and adjusted it. The valve was working properly afterward.
That valve is what mixes the hot and cold water so the shower temperature can be controlled. Dave also removed and refitted a loose sink spout, then checked that it was secure and wasn’t leaking.
He helped select a linear drain screen for the master shower, which the owner will order and install. A possible shower body and trim replacement is a separate future project.
The total for everything we did on this visit was $738.25.
Finding the part that actually failed keeps the repair focused.
Check the screens first.
Debris in the valve screens can block the cold side. They were clean here, which pointed to the thermostatic valve itself.
