Dan’s job notes
What brought us out.
The guest bathroom sink drain and an adjacent cast-iron main line were leaking at this Culver City building. Dave and I needed access to the damaged piping before we could replace it.
What we did.
We opened the concrete around the two-inch cast-iron pipe and removed drywall behind the guest sink. That let us remove and replace the drain piping.
In the garage, we also replaced a leaking section of the four-inch cast-iron main line and its fitting. These are the pipes that carry used water away, so repairing the damaged sections keeps that water in the drain system.
The total for everything we did on this visit was $2,350.42.
Getting proper access is often a big part of repairing a concealed drain leak.
Old cast iron cracks.
Cast iron rusts from the inside until a fitting splits. Cutting out the bad section and joining new pipe with no-hub couplings stops the leak without redoing the whole line.
